An Important Message from your Co-Presidents

Happy September, ALD & PES members!
After a long and careful discussion between the executive board and the advisors, the University of Maryland College Park chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society will disaffiliate from national Phi Eta Sigma.
The reasons for this disaffiliation include:
  • PES has increased their membership fees: This will negatively impact our future members and make it harder for qualified first year students from joining and utilizing what our honor society can provide!
  • Being part of two national organizations, ALD and PES, that serve very similar functions, has been confusing for our members and our overall branding.
  • Remaining as only ALD will allow us to still provide national scholarships and local scholarships that we have always provided and more opportunities for our members.
As a single chapter (Alpha Lambda Delta), our goal is to simplify our process for initiating new members, decrease our fees (to make the organization more accessible to students), and increase the understanding of our brand as an organization.
Current inducted members, you all are lifetime members of both Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Societies.
This means that you can get both honor cords from ALD and PES when you graduate. This disaffiliation will only affect future members, who will be initiated into Alpha Lambda Delta only.
Thank you for understanding and being such active and passionate members! ALD Honor Society will only get better at making your experience more special and useful for your future years here at UMD.
Please be on the look out for our future GBM’s and events coming up very soon!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at
-Charmaine Yuan and Becky Kaminsky, Co-Presidents
